Fred R. Baker, longtime resident of Harrison Township, died peacefully July 2, 2017 surrounded by the love of his children. He was 81 years of age.
Fred was born on October 25, 1935 in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, son of the late Frederick and Edna (Hakenjos) Baker. He was blessed with six beautiful children of whom he loved and provided for. Fred was a Chemical Engineer for Ford Motor Company for just over 28 years and retired from DuPont in January of 1988 after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Fraser Flying Club and the RCCD (Radio Control Club of Detroit). Along with the love of flying, Fred enjoyed sailing in the warm summer months and was a talented woodworker. He was also an avid photographer and recorded the life of the family through his photos. He always found something to do around his house; just always enjoyed tinkering around. Fred was a straight shooter who was fair, kind and generous. He will be deeply missed and his light will continue to glow in our heart forever.
Fred was cherished father of Ann (Mark) Owen, Barbara (the late Thomas) Nies, Kathryn (Ronald) Halicki, James (Darla) Baker, Michael (Michelle) Baker and the late Fred (Ricky) Baker II; dearest grandfather of eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren; loving friend of Barbara Allen; brother of Jeanne, Ruth and Tweedie (Edna); and uncle of many nieces and nephews who he cared for deeply.
Memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory appreciated.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 10am until the time of funeral service at 11am. Private burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery of Detroit.
