Veterans Benefits

Veterans of military service may be eligible for certain limited benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

While making at-need or preneed funeral arrangements, the family should present a copy of the official "Discharge Papers" (form # DD-214) to us.  Faulmann & Walsh Funeral Home will use this information to prepare an Application for United States Flag For Burial Purposes (VA Form # 2008) which allows us to secure a U.S. flag prior to the funeral. This form also opens a file with the Veterans Administration regarding the deceased's military record.

Benefits are limited and may vary, based upon factors such as the length of service time, specific duty period, type of discharge, etc. Information pertaining to County Burial Benefits and Federal Burial Entitlements has been provided by the Office of Veterans Affairs. These benefits must be applied for, however, in the same county where the veteran resided.

When applying for V.A. death benefits, it is necessary to take along the following documentation:

1)           Certified Copy of Death Certificate,

2)           Receipt of paid funeral bill,

3)           Military discharge papers,

4)           Copy of marriage license (when applicable)

The local Veterans Affairs office will assist you in obtaining any other V.A. benefits to which you may be entitled.
