Dear Dad: I didn't realize I could miss someone so much. I can't believe you're really gone. The tears just will not stop. I hope you realized how much you meant to mom, Marty, Steve and me. You were a war hero and then came into our family and immediately became our hero. My heart is breaking even now as I write this. A special man? Yes, that's what you were to us and to so many others. Your life wasn't always easy yet you never complained. I only wish I could've done more for you. I wish I could take back those last few days of your life and reverse the suffering you endured. I was always proud of you and grateful to you for taking care of mom and for always being there for Marty, Steve and me. I wish I knew how to go on without you, how to numb the pain and sadness. I loved you in life and I love you now. Until we see each other again, just keep dancing. All my love, Joanna

After our father, Anthony Collica, passed away in 1968, Bill stepped into our lives and spent the next 48 years making our mom happy. My siblings and I grew to love him and as we three grew older, leaving mom and Bill on their own, their lives together grew stronger. Bill exposed mom to travel and casinos and bowling. She learned to make pasta from scratch the way he liked it. Their later years together were a test, when mom began a long sickness with dementia, which she still suffers from eight years later. Bill and we children did all we could to help. The past few years were harder on Bill as his health began to slip. His one main concern was to always be sure he took care of mom when she went to live away from him for in an adult health care home. I came to appreciate his sharp mind and was always amazed at his knowledge of current computer and cell phone trends. Bless you Bill, you served our country well through WWII and beyond. You took care of our mom and always was ready to help us in any way. You will be missed by all who knew you. I'll see you down the road.

My family and I are so proud of our Step Father, William Cornacchia (90 years old), and wanted to share this. Our wonderful step father served in World War II and flew 19 missions over enemy territory for the Air Force in a B-17 aircraft. Then re-enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and served on battleships in the seas surrounding Europe and China. He even was involved in the early stages of the Vietnam War. Completed 20 years in the Navy as an Electronics Technician which became his career as a civilian. He came into our family in 1969 when he married my Mom, Rose (one year after my Father passed). Being single all of his life, he took on the responsibility of raising myself, sister and brother. I guess after surviving a few major wars, taking on a wife and 3 kids couldn’t be that hard……:O). He’s been a loyal and dedicated Father and Husband to my Mom for 45 years. Even though for the last 6 years, my Mom has been diagnosed with dementia and lives in a care home, he still cares dearly, visits her often, and is as in love with her as the day they met. From his past, you can see he’s not afraid to take a gamble, and actually, that is his hobby, playing craps at the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit. So it’s my privilege to take him there as often as I can for his relaxation and enjoyment. He’s an amazing man.
