Obituary for Thelma Dean Smith (Schaefer)

Thelma Dean Smith, a long time resident of Roseville, was received into the loving arms of Jesus and her loving husband on Thursday morning under the care of hospice and surrounded by the love of her family. Thelma was 93 years of age.

Thelma was born in Pekin, Illinois on February 7, 1926, the daughter of John and Olga (Weyhrich) Schaefer. She was raised in the great state of Illinois. Thelma was a graduate of the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing of Peoria. She met her beloved husband Arthur Smith in Denver and was united in marriage on August 12, 1950 in St. John Lutheran Church in Green Valley, Illinois. The couple moved around quite a bit because of her husband's military career. They moved to Michigan in 1966. Thelma had worked 40 years in Nursing, with the Macomb County Health Department Home Care and ending with retirement in 1992 from the Tank Arsenal as an Industrial Nurse. Thelma loved to paint, enjoyed gardening and caring for her lawn, and traveling which she did extensively in Europe with her daughters and husband. She was a loving and devoted mother who loved her church, the Lutheran Ministry, and her Lord and Savior. Thelma will be deeply missed.

Thelma is the beloved wife of the late Arthur; loving mother of Debra (Robert) Hoepfner, Rev. Mark (Barbara) Smith, Peggy (Nick) Nolte and Arta Smith; and dearest grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren and one great grandchild.
